Big Block Baby Blanket

This is a fun baby blanket to make. I decided to make a little twist with the basket weave pattern and it turned out beautiful.

If you are like me, you don’t like counting your stitches but you want your pattern to turn out the way it’s supposed to. You probably also want to watch a movie or a movie marathon and crochet. One of the nice things about this pattern is that you don’t have to count after the second row.

I tend to do a quick count every now and then to check but you can tell with the way the blocks are that your count is correct. So each block is 10 stitches and the rows are 9 rows and then at the 10th row make your change to a new set of blocks. But you still really don’t need to count. To make sure that you have 9 rows in your block count the rows on the wrong side block which is the block that is bpdc. That is the easiest way to see how many rows.

So your turn chain doesn’t count in the block, you make your turn chain and then start your block with the post stitch (whichever one you are on) and the last stitch of each row doesn’t count in the blocks either, it is a normal dc – meaning that it does NOT go around the post.

Size 4.00mm / G Hook

Stitches

dc= double crochet; Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

fpdc = front post double crochet; yarn over and go around the front of the post, yarn over and pull around, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

bpdc = back post double crochet; yarn over and go around the back of the post, yarn over and pull around, yarn over and pull through the first two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops.

(each set of blocks is 9 rows – do not count the first row of normal dc across) If you want to change the start chain for a longer blanket size, just add 10 more chains.
