Gigi Hotpad

What do you call your grandmother?  My sister is a young grandmother and she decided to go by Gigi!  As we have many other grandmothers in my family.  Including my 91 year old grandma.  So, I decided to make a series of Hot Granny Hotpads.  We are starting with Gigi.  Look forward to Nana, and Mimi.  If you have any suggestions for granny names, please add a comment.

Tapestry crochet is just colorwork with single crochet.

For this potholder, you will make a separate piece for the back that is plain which will hide the back.  You can carry the other color or not carry it and just hide the way the back looks at the end.

When there is a color change, add the new color on the last part of the single crochet on the stitch before.

Colorchart

To make this a hotpad or trivet, we will need to double it up. This also helps to hide our wrong side.

Make a second panel

Chain 41

Crochet 23 rows of single crochet in color A with 40 stitches in each row.

Attach the back panel to the wrong side with the right side facing up. Single crochet around attaching the back panel to the front panel with color A.

Attach color B and single crochet around the entire hotpad with the second color.

You can add an optional edging of shell stitches around the entire hotpad. Shell edging= Skip 2, double crochet x 5 in the next stitch, skip 2, single crochet, skip 2, double crochet x 5 in the next stitch, skip 2, sc, continue around the entire hotpad.
